Quartz - one of the most under-rated crystals out there. If you have no other crystals, this is the one to get. Once you have one, anticipate getting more because you'll use them often. Quartz can be used from everything from meditation, to healing, to grounding, to protection. It's one of the most versatile crystals out there, if not the most versatile.
It's programmable. Yes, you read that right. It can be programed to take on the properties of any other crystal.
It's a high vibrational crystal, that is so intense, it can melt snow. Now, that said, don't go spending a fortune of crystals to melt your driveway, it's not that melty that you wouldn't need ice melt, but what it will do is melt a small area around itself. Try it on the next snowy day, collect a thin layer of snow on a dish and place your quartz on it. Notice I said thin. If it's an inch deep, you won't really see it melting, but collect about a "dusting" or 1/8 inch or so. Slowly, you'll see the snow closest to your quartz is melting so it'll almost look like it has a halo around it. Remember, it's not immediate, so you can put it down and walk away for little bit.
If you want to protect the energy of your home or yard, put quartz points in the corners of your house, and bury quartz points in the ground in the four most corner points of your yard.

These are just some of the things that quartz can do. I recommend it be added to everyone's crystal collection. They are really amazing crystals.
